    The Moving Wall

On May 26 – 30, 2016, Knox Museum proudly hosted the Vietnam Combat Veterans’ The Moving Wall, a half-scale replica of Maya Lin’s original design located on the National Mall in Washington, DC.

Visiting hours were 24 hours per day, except during special ceremonies. Admission was free, and 13,000 people attended.

The Moving Wall – the first of its kind in 1984 – has been touring the country for over 30 years, offering thousands who would never have the chance to get to Washington, DC, the opportunity to witness this important American monument.

Many, many thanks go out to all the businesses, families, posts, individuals and more who made this extraordinary event possible.

Bringing The Moving Wall to Thomaston was a massive undertaking, requiring installation of a 252′ long platform, multiple tents, handicapped walkways, remote parking, shuttle service, 24-hour security, grief counselors, sanitary facilities, meals for volunteers, name-rubbing materials for schoolchildren, major publicity – the list goes on.
