My, how things have changed… Lots of new things to see at Montpelier this season! If you’ve never been, this is the time. And if you have been inside before, this is still the time to come see a whole new take on Montpelier and Henry Knox. With visiting exhibitions from Mount Vernon and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, The National Society of the Cincinnati, Castine Historical Society, and the Grand Lodge of Masons in Maine; plus spotlights on the DAR and Thomaston Historical Society in our newly-created “Thomaston Room,” supported in part by a grant from the Maine Community Fund; a whole new interactive “War Room,” and special “Women in the Military” exhibition funded in part by Walmart Foundation; the latest dirt on Knox’s Heirloom Gardens; and the superb original Knox family furniture and objects displayed in all their glory in The General’s Bedroom, and the new Knox Collections Room – well, wow! – there is ALOT going in, and something of interest for everyone. Don’t miss this special grand re-opening event on Thursday, June 15, from 5 pm to 7 pm. Admission is free and all are invited and encouraged to attend. Please note that due to the historical nature of the building, Montpelier is not handicapped-accessible. Light refreshments will be served.
